Polarography, a hundred years in the service of humankind
The article commemorates the 100th anniversary of polarography, discovered in 1922 by the Czech chemist Jaroslav Heyrovský (1890–1967), and its importance for chemistry and far beyond its borders. The background, discovery, and development of polarography are summarized. The legacy of Jaroslav Heyrovský remains thus alive and still has a positive impact on the quality of life of humanity. Moreover, it represents an important model and a moment of inspiration for the upcoming generations of scientists.
