Abstract

Which computer was the first one? In this contribution, we commemorate the invention by Wilhelm Schickard, described in his letter to Johannes Kepler, written in 1623, and discuss why it is usually Blaise Pascal’s slightly later invention which is usually mentioned as the first computer.
