Czechs and their Vitamins: Vitamins as a Symbol of Science in the Czech Lands 1945–1970
The study focuses on the perception of vitamins as a symbol of science, which, after their discovery before World War I, became widely known to the general public in the Czech lands. It briefly summarizes developments up to 1945, when vitamins and their importance became an important topic of discussion in society. Emphasis is placed on the period 1945–1970, when vitamins became a key part of the medicalized discourse on nutrition. The study analyzes the factors that attracted attention to vitamins, in particular their ability to act in minute quantities.
