This article describes the evolution and institutionalization of the Czechoslovak system of Scientific, Technical and Economic Information (STEI) from 1959 to 1989. It analyses the international cooperation within the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance and focuses on the bilateral Czechoslovak-Soviet cooperation in this field. Using publications from the period and archival materials, this study shows how was the Czechoslovak STEI system and socialist cooperation seen by contemporaries and to what extend it could be considered as successful.
